Congratulations
on taking the first step toward a healthy body utilizing the Pilates
method of exercise! Below are some of the most frequently asked
questions about your first studio visit to Pilates by Ginny:
How do I get started?
Read through the information
provided on the
sessions & rates page
to determine what type of sessions you would like. Feel free to
contact Ginny to answer any
questions. A registration form is required for all sessions at Pilates
by Ginny, which covers contact information, health history, and studio
policies. Please plan to arrive 5-10 minutes early to your first
session to fill out the registration form, or you may
print one here and bring it with you to your first session.
What do I wear?
Comfortable and flexible
clothing: t-shirts, sports tops, shorts, sweats, yoga pants, leggings
or any athletic clothing are all acceptable. What's most important is
that you wear something that allows for movement. Socks or bare feet
are preferred during your workout.
What should I bring?
Everything you need for class is
provided by the studio - except for towels, you will need to provide
your own towel should you desire one for head/neck support or
perspiration. If you prefer to use your own mat, feel free to bring it
with you.
Does Pilates hurt?
No, and it shouldn't! If you are
ever in pain, stop exercising and rest. Let Ginny know so that she can
provide you with a modification to better suit your personal needs.
While all exercise requires you to exert yourself, it should never
cause pain.
How often should I practice Pilates?
2-3 times a week is ideal in
order to provide the best results.
How soon will I see results?
Although individual results will
vary, most people often feel better in just a few sessions. With
consistent practice, you will gain increased core strength and be well
on your way to achieving true mental and physical fitness.
What type of classes do you offer?
What is the difference between the Beginner Mat class and the Intro to Pilates class?
This is truly a personal choice, and either is a great place to start.
Which one you choose depends on your personality and learning style.
Starting in
with the
Beginner Mat classes allows you to jump right into the work and
movement of
Pilates, though the learning curve of terminology and cues during class
may
take a bit longer to pick up on if you've never done Pilates before. With that said though, it is not
difficult to understand and keep up, and asking questions during or
after class is
always ok. These classes follow the drop-in style of class, and
you may take as many or as few classes per week as you would like.
Starting
in with the Intro to
Pilates workshop allows you to learn to the basic movements and
terminology
throughout the 6-week course, though it can be a bit too slow for some
people. This class is designed for those who really want to
take Pilates step-by-step to start, or for those who really like to
know every detail in
order to fully comprehend the work. The class progresses from
50/50
talk/exercise in the first class, to a full Beginners Mat class by the
end.
Both are great options, and
which you choose depends on your personality and whether you want to jump right
in, or take it a little slower & learn the details first.
What type of equipment do you offer?
- The Reformer/Half-Trap provides
a wonderful full-body workout for all levels of Pilates. Used with
Private and Semi-Private Sessions.
- The MVe Fitness Chair provides an intense workout for those already
familiar with the basic Pilates exercises. Used with Private Sessions

bio-feedback as well as "spice up" the workout. Can be
used with all Classes/Sessions. Small props include: body band, physio
